Continuing with different approaches of how to handle waste, we want to show you what a Japanese company called Blest has been doing for the last years.
Akinori Ito, CEO of Blest, has spent these last years teaching people around the world the about the value discarded plastic has, with his machine that converts plastic into oil. It sounds incredible, but has hold up to the skeptics query. The fantastic thing about it, is that running on 1kWh it converts roughly one kilogram of plastic into a liter of unrefined oil, in some 3 hours. The result is a leftover energetic surplus of about 7kWh in the form of oil.
This, as any interesting invention, provokes many questions. Our main doubt around this is: Are we so addicted to oil? Would it not be better to keep plastics in a closed plastic cycle?
Clearly this invention is helpful as a teaching tool. It is also a very desirable alternative for plastic disposal, instead of landfilling or wastefully burning it. It is a very relevant object in a world where recycling doesn't begin to cover our plastic disposal rate.

Siguiendo con diferentes opciones de cómo disponer de la basura, queremos mostrarles que ha estado haciendo una empresa japonesa llamada Blest, estos últimos años (Lamentablemente este video no tiene subtítulos en español).
Akinori Ito, director de Blest, se ha pasado estos últimos años enseñándole a la gente de distintas partes del mundo, cuál es el valor del plástico desechado. Para ello usa su máquina que convierte plástico a aceite de quemar. Suena increíble, pero este producto de ha podido defender de las preguntas de los menos crédulos. Lo fantástico de ésta maquina es que para andar usa 1kWh para convertir un kilo de plásticos a un lítro de aceite no refinado, en más o menos tres horas. Como resultado, uno queda con más energía de la que invirtió, unos 7kWh en forma de aceite.
Éste, como cualquier buen invento, genera muchas preguntas. Nuestras principales dudas al respecto son: ¿Somos tan adictos al aceite como forma de energía? ¿No será mejor mantener los plásticos dentro de un ciclo de recyclaje cerrado?
De todas maneras es un excelente invento, útil como herramienta educacional. También es una alternativa deseable para desechar plásticos. Mejor ésto a que terminen en un vertedero o quemados irresponsablemente. Es un objeto muy relevante en este mundo, donde el reciclaje ni comienza a disminuit nuestra velocidad de descarte de plástico.

ResponderEliminarYes, it may be considered that is can be a bit tripping with the same stone to produce oil again, but we just need to remember that, in the specific case of Japan, they don't have a lot of energetic resources in their own territory, and that technology like this can supply it instead of nuclear power... remember the nuclear disaster after the earthquakes early in this year, maybe that can be prevented. In other countries with other kind of resources of course they can look for other energetic alternatives.
